From Killarney Adagio cruised southwest to Manitoulin Island, called "Spirit Island" by the First Nations people for the powerful spirit that lived within its caves. A natural break wall, Manitoulin protects Ontario's mainland from Lake Huron's fierce waves to the south and is the largest freshwater island in the world. Skimming along Manitoulin’s northern shore, we passed the town of Little Current and stopped for the night in Kagawong, where Charles and Haden hiked to beautiful Bridal Veil Falls.

The next morning, with bad weather threatening, we motored on to Gore Bay, stopping for three days to wait out the storm. Several other Loopers were seeking refuge from the weather and it was great to reconnect with them. A bagpiper on the sailboat next door provided entertainment.
